Li Wang
I was originally an interior designer, graduated from the Department of Environmental Art Design at South China University. I have been rooted in Shiwan, Foshan, engaging in interior design work. This has led me to frequently come into contact with Shiwan's ceramic artworks, which I use as artistic embellishments in our display designs. These ceramic artworks enter our daily design and living spaces, and I have discovered the beauty, simplicity, charm, and strong artistic sense of Shiwan's ceramic art. For those of us doing design work in Foshan, we naturally hope that our design works present a regional cultural atmosphere, which certainly cannot be separated from the long-standing ceramic culture of Shiwan and the artistic sense presented by its ceramic artworks, which are very characteristic of the regional culture.
Due to my frequent immersion in this cultural atmosphere, over time, I developed a bond with pottery and also formed a connection with Huang Zhitang, a master of Shiwan pottery art. In 2019, I became the 12th disciple of Huang Zhitang and began my pottery art life. In recent years, I have been continuously learning pottery art from my master and understanding the culture of Shiwan pottery, gradually accumulating techniques in clay sculpture and the commercial creative thinking for pottery art. I focus on wood-fired ceramics and modern ceramic ornaments. I use my design thinking to explore various creative processes and the effects after firing. Only through continuous creation, wood firing and verification, improvement, can I strive to become an outstanding ceramic art designer.
